History
Our Heritage
First Baptist Church of Brownfield, Texas was organized as a church in April 1906 by a group of Baptists who had been meeting in the Brownfield School House. The church met in the school house until the Methodists erected a building, then the Methodists and the Baptists met in the Methodist Church building on alternate Sundays. Brother M. D. Williams as called as their first pastor on May 5, 1906.
During the following years, the church continued to grow and buildings were erected. Twenty-two different men have led this church as pastor. Our present pastor, Dr. Carl C. Moman came on staff December 12, 2010.
The church has sponsored five local missions, with the first beginning in 1944. We also sponsored one in Oregon and one in California. The local missions (all now churches) were:
- Westside Baptist Church
- Calvary Baptist Church
- Primera Iglesia Bautista
- Jerusalem Iglesia Bautista
- Faith Chapel Baptist Church
The church continues to be a mission-minded church with emphasis on local, associational, state and foreign mission activities. We have helped with Vacation Bible Schools in Juarez, Mexico for many years with the Associational River Ministry. Our youth raised money needed for the supplies to build a home for a family in Mexico, and helped build it.
God has been so good to First Baptist Brownfield. The church is a pillar of the community… a beautiful, impressive structure… but most importantly, a house of worship for men, women, and children to come together and find fellowship and peace of mind to worship the one true God.
Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the church is to be a loving, caring fellowship of baptized believers who worship Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord… proclaim and teach God’s Word… minister to the community, state and nation… and witness to a diversified society in which we live; sharing the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ with all peoples of the world.
